Oct Skies w/ IIITAIII, Alas Zone, Space Racer, Johno Wells, Dub Station Zero, Jungle of Wires & more

Performances by IIITAIII, Alias Zone, Space Racer, Johno Wells, Nasty Nachos, Dub Station Zero, Monoscene, Jungle of Wires, and Sine Mountain. When you gaze out at an early morning sky or stay up late to find your favorite constellation, your imagination may take you to space beyond. October Skies is an exploration of space music when composed by modular synth artists. Space music is contemplative. The artists have free rein on their interpretation of Space music, but we expect a deep-listening experience. 0:00-2:58 Intro 2:58-20:07 Sine Mountain 20:07-37:06 Jungle of Wires 37:06-51:30 Monoscene 51:30-1:09:37 Dub Station Zero 1:09:37-1:30:21 Nasty Nachos 1:30:21-1:51:55 Johno Wells 1:51:55-2:11:00 Space Racer 2:11:00-2:33:44 Alias Zone aka Chris Meyer from Learning Modular 2:33:44-2:50:51 IIITAIII The event is streaming on October 25th starting at 2 PM. How to make "snappy" AR and AD Envelopes with an ADSR - Featuring WMD Javelin

AD envelopes are great for making quick percussive sounds. An AR is similar however will stay open for the duration of the gate signal it receives. ADSR envelopes add a bit more contour and are great for classic synth sounds with varied gate lengths. In this video, Alex demonstrates the differences of each style of envelope and how to make them with the WMD Javelin Envelope + VCA combo. "Snappy" is a subjective term commonly used to describe the way an envelope sounds. It can be likened to word like quick, fast, plucky, blippy etc. AD envelopes are known for their snappy qualities and strengths in making percussive blips and bongo like sounds. The javelin has lots of really unique options for an envelope like Accent, voltage levels, time ranges, and a mode switch that makes it act much more like a triggered A/D than your common ADSR. A super versatile module for all sounds and styles of synthesis. We then go a bit deeper into what this type of envelope can be used for and introduce the WMD C4RBN filter to create a low-pass gate inspired patch. If you've ever wondered if the filter goes before or after the VCA, Alex shows examples of both and explains why you might want to do it one way or the other. Sounds of the WMD Crater - Eurorack Bass Drum Module - NO TALKING

19 or so minutes of the WMD Crater. All sounds created with CRATER. No external or post processing. Sequenced by the WMD METRON and Voltera, and some bits of FM and modulation provided by the WMD/SSF Spectrum and Pole Zero Eurorack modules. Best of both worlds, Crater is an analog/digital hybrid bass drum that plays as hard as it kicks. The analog side is where crater gets it’s tone, it’s umf’ and it’s power. Like a 909 style kick drum, Crater’s analog section features a pitch envelope that ranges from snappy attacks, to lazer sounds, to disco toms. 1 volt per octave tracking and an amplitude envelope that allows users to use Crater for classic 808 style hip hop bass lines as well as rolling techno kicks. Speaking of rolling bass, Crater has a new feature we have yet to see on a dedicated kick drum module, which is the Sustain stage. The sustain knob lets you dial in a sustain level that Crater will stay at as long as the gate is high. Inspired by using samplers in “gate mode”, the sustain circuit lets you use gate length to sequence different kick lengths, while keeping your decay setting constant. This is perfect for getting multiple sounds from of one module. The Digital side is where we feel Crater really becomes unique and ultra-useful in a live performance Eurorack system. The “secret sauce” of kick drums is usually found in layering different sounds to create a drum that cuts through the mix in the high frequencies, while remaining powerful in the lows. Many kicks you hear in dance music tracks are samples made from layering two or more sounds and we wanted to achieve this level of polished sound with our kick. So, what we did was add in a digital section for the Attack side of the kick drum. The Timbre knob lets you dial in different attack sounds we’ve created, inspired by classic drum machines, music we like, and sample packs we’ve used in the past. The “Body” knob shapes the attack while adding a bit of delayed noise which simulates things in the room being affected by the kick such as loose lugs or a snare drum rattling near by. This gives the kick more of a natural and acoustic feel to the sound.
